Since June, it is estimated that violence has driven over 80,000 people out of their homes in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontiéres (MSF) is providing emergency assistance by distributing kits with essential relief items to displaced people. Since mid-June, over 4,000 families or over 20,000 people have received kits.
“Displaced people need these objects, as well as food, because in their places [of origin], where they were settled, they ended up losing almost everything,” says MSF driver and logistician Jamal Gonçalves. “They need this type of help.” In this video, Gonçalves walks us through what’s in the three different types of relief kits we distribute, the food item kit, the travel kit, and the standard kit.
